This isn’t about cancer anymore. It’s about exercise and health and the rest of your life.
When we push off we’re paddling away from breast cancer.”

Belles Stories » Wendy Scurr

I was first diagnosed in 2003 and again in 2006. I went bald twice as a result of chemotherapy and underwent radiation once. Breast Cancer taught me many things – not least of which, just how important it is to live every moment to the fullest. My story does not dwell on the journey that breast cancer took me along, but rather focuses on the gift of life and all it embraces. Being able to visit mastectomy patients at state hospitals is one of the ways in which I can share my positive story with those walking the road. The time spent with these women is mutually beneficial and each time I walk away having gained a deeper insight into what life is really all about.

Each new day enables me to “do it better” than the day before. Those with whom I spend time with during the week will know how important relationships have become to me. Being able to reach out to others and not count the cost brings a reward that cannot be measured. I am deeply grateful to all my friends who have stood by me over the years and those who have recently entered my life.

May our journeys remind us, that life is precious and worth every step of the way.
