Belles Stories » Janet Butler

Janet-Butler-2

Wow, I am a Belle !

I am extremely proud and honoured to be associated with such a powerful group of ladies, and our gents who guide us.

When I was diagnosed in June 2008, I really thought this is it. I had lost my Mom and sister in 1999/2000 respectively, to cancer and thought – now it is my time. It was rather frightening, as I also have a little boy who was only 6 at the time, and I am a single Mom. What a challenge.

When I met our captain and founder member Jen (just before I was diagnosed), little did I know what a profound impact her friendship would have on me. She not only guided me from the word go but during treatment, as well. She was always talking about her team of ladies i.e. the Belles but, I still felt as though my days were numbered and I was not ready to join.

It was only when I first started paddling that I got a new lease on life and I feel great.

These ladies are truly remarkable and so accepting of me and each other.

I urge all ladies who have survived breast cancer, to come and watch us sometime. Thereafter, you can decide on whether you would also wish to become a Belle.

I feel a lot more positive about my life and my journey – thanks to the amaBele Belles.
